About

profilephotoHello and happy meeting!  I have blogged about books, music, film and culture over at Two or Three Little Birds and in this joyful space especially, I offer seasonal retreats and reflections.  I’m a fulltime English professor and storyteller in search of honesty, mirth and grace.  One of my favorite writers Brian Doyle once said, we tell each other stories as a way to extend the hand of our hearts and that if we tell the right story at the right time, the universe will move an inch.  I believe stories matter, and as a 21st century Catholic woman, I believe my story matters. Things I’m fond of

  • cafés and cobbled streets
  • the new york times sunday home delivery
  • clapping and singing and dancing, esp at church
  • birds in trees and fluttering leaves
  • people who smile when it’s raining
  • the last french fry at the bottom of the bag
  • kindnesses and hugs and being goofy
  • a laugh that’s funnier than the joke
  • kind words.  patience.  forgiveness.
  • hope.  love.  understanding.

Always believe something wonderful is about to happen.             ~ unknown

Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the sky; they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not more important than they? Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span? Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith? So do not worry and say ‘what are we to eat?’ or ‘what are we to wear?’ All these things will be given you besides.  Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.    ~ Mt 6:25-34
